My first time in Africa, and at the same time it’s my fifth continent that I have visited so far! Woohoo!
Our friends in Nairobi brought us to this weekend holiday with them. After a 2-3 hours car ride away from Nairobi, we ended up in this beautiful Airbnb cottage on the edge of Lake Naivasha. Little did we know that we would have awesome moments there on just our second day in Kenya – we were going for a WALKING SAFARI!
The safari took place at Crescent Island, an island located in Lake Naivasha which has the shape of a crescent moon. There, the animals run free, and we were also able to walk freely with them!
The boat ride itself took about 40-45 mins, because we had a little bit of a tour by Jean – explanations about Lake Naivasha and the animals that we encountered. After we arrived, we got only a brief explanation about what to do, and there we were, walking and surrounded by zebras, giraffes, wildebeests, gazelles, pelicans, and we even saw hippos!
We took a walk around the island, and of course we tried to be as close as we can to the animals! One time I got so close to a giraffe and met its big-round eyes for a few seconds. It was magical!
We then crossed to the main island and had lunch at Sanctuary Farm, at which we could enjoy the surrounding areas while having our meal.
Note: When you’re at Lake Naivasha, it’s worth to visit Hell’s Gate National Park, which Disney’s Lion King’s scene is heavily modeled after.
