Koh Samet: Island Trip with an (almost) 3 months old

Posted on 31 May 2020

First trip that we took together as a new family was a trip to Indonesia when the little one was 6 weeks old, on October 2019. The first vacation that we took together though, was a trip to Koh Samet, a small island off Rayong, when Kirana was almost 3 months old.

Since I had never visited Koh Samet before, I excitedly jumped on the idea. Yay, new island visit (if you haven’t known this – we are obsessed with islands)!

Dennis chose Mooban Talay Resort for this trip and it was a great choice! The location of the resort made possible for us to get quiet time, private beach, and great atmosphere. The bungalow was nice and cozy, it has sea view. And actually, this is the first time for us to order baby cot. Felt like we’re real adult now!

Since we’re together with Kirana, we really was taking the trip very easy. We will still hang out on the beach, but will go back to the room whenever the baby need feeding (and it is almost once every 2 hours :D).

Being in the small island, the environment is a bit challenging from the usual cozy home that me and Kirana used to have during our 6 weeks together. It was more windy (to be on the beach), we have to be worried about mosquitoes, and having less of the usual tools that we had.

Here’s what I prepared for the island trip with newborn, on top of the usual packing list:
1. Bamboo muslin wraps – I brought 3 of this since it is very useful. I used it for blanket, cover, sleeping, sunscreen, etc.
2. Telon oil – Indonesia’s mom’s secret for newborn babies, very useful for mosquitoes, not only for baby but for adults too.
3. Baby Carrier – To make mama easy to move!
4. Breastfeeding friendly clothes
5. Breastfeeding pillow – double purpose as sleeping bed for Kirana
6. Diapers and diapers changing tools

In the end, mindset is everything. I thought to myself, that there are babies living in the small islands – this exists. If that parents can do well, so can we too! And at the end of the trip, I realized that babies are not as fragile as what we thought they are 🙂

We had a great time!
