The simple life at River Kwai

Posted on 18 March 2018

Recovering from jet lag from Europe to South East Asia is harder than any other timezone, in my opinion. The 5-6 hours time difference made me waking up and sleeping at weird hours. Usually it will take 5-7 days for me to recover, meaning going back to my 1am-8am sleeping time.
When we arrived back in Bangkok that Thursday, I would imagine and craved for a restful weekend, where jet lag will still be exist but it will also be ok because we can be relaxed all weekend long. Dennis has another idea.

“So bae, what should we do on the weekend?”, a LINE message came from Dennis that Friday afternoon.

Long story short, we were on 3 hours drive going outside Bangkok, arriving at the River Kwai Pier. I have my iPad mini ready with downloaded Netflix Stranger Things.

When we boarded the long-tail boat, “it will be a non-electricity kinda stay”, Dennis told me. Jungle all over again!
It took us 15 minutes approx. to reach our floating hotel, and I am getting very excited. We were greeted by green lush sceneries alongside the river, and passing through buffalo beach pond. After passing by 2 hotels/resort, we arrived at ours.

River Kwai Jungle Rafts is an eco-floating-hotel in the middle of River Kwai Noi, surrounded by mountains and jungle. The hotels are basically consists of few floating wooden/bamboo boats, tied altogether to form a floatel (floating hotel) with around 60+ rooms.

On top of no electricity, it is:
No wifi
No air conditioner
No hot water
Room walls are thin

But what you get will be:
Free floating on the river, streaming jumping from one end of the floatel and stopping on the other end
View of thousand stars, especially when the night is bright
Experience of being closer to nature
Visiting Mon tribe village, which is connected by bamboo bridge from this floatel

Hopefully these photos will help you see the fun we got there!

One of the many floating boats, this one is taken in front of our room, no. 29
First float was scary as you cannot stay still, but we ended up not stopping (too much fun!) until it was almost dark
More floating, please!
